2008 NFL Regular Season LB Stats by College (Big 10, SEC)
Why is Penn State call "Linebacker U"? Some stereotypes are just hard to break. In the NFL, the nittany's are about as productive as UNC and Northwestern. Yet somehow, reporters talk about them as a LB hotbed. This goes to a thesis that I've refined post-Freep fiasco: reporters are sheep. They hear something and parrot it ad naseum. The slow collapse of their industry is somehow deeply satisfying (except that it'll enable far more corruption in politics -- but that's for another blog). Anyway, back to FB stats:
2008 NFL Regular Season LB Stats by College (UM, Penn State)
Kinda cool: Dhani Jones has almost exactly the same production as the PSU alumni. Plus he films a moderately entertaining. if not slightly disturbing travel show (Not sure how I felt about Dhani on a fox hunt -- the British cougars were in heat.). I think we should call Dhani Jones Linebacker U. It will help brand his TV show. "Linebacker U tackles the globe" sounds pretty cool. PSU can then fill the void and be renamed DJU (yes: Dhani Jones University). Everyone wins (except the name Dhani is somewhat sullied in the process).Oh yeah: this is getting old: The SEC and ACC produce the most NFL LB talent. Big 10 3rd. Big 12, Big East, and Pac 10 bringing up the rear. Non-BCS schools are pretty crappy at producing NFL defensive talent.
Up NEXT: By special request, combined DL and LB sack stats! Lance at umgoblog has requested this. Makes sense since there is some blending of the roles here. I'd also like to mention that umgoblog is my favorite Michigan football blog (b/c they link to me). That ass-clown (Brian) at mgoblog doesn't link to me yet. I find that, if you insult him, he becomes more responsive.
